Dean Hendrickson
I began playing trombone in the 4th grade and played through high school. The horn was then put away in my folk's attic and transferred
years later to my attic. From high school until beginning to play again was 42 years. During that 42 years I married Carol, had three
children and now 3.5 grandchildren (granddaughter expected in May!).
I enlisted in the Navy at age 17, finished my enlistment, went to undergraduate school at Montana State University, Dental School at the
University of Oregon and went back into the Navy for a career. While in the Navy, I completed a one-year fellowship and 3 year residency
in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I retired from the Navy as a CAPTAIN (06), and established a practice in Silverdale and Poulsbo,
retiring at the age of 60.
Playing the trombone has taken over my life--just ask Carol! I practice daily, take weekly lessons, and, besides the Hometown Band,
belong to the Farragut Brass Band and the Peninsula Trombone Choir. One often wonders what they will do when they retire and playing
the trombone has filled that void and given me so much satisfaction. The musicians I associate with are a whole new group of people that
make the experience very enjoyable. It is a ball to make music with them and have fun!
